LARPD Introduces Destination Shelly: Community Camp at Camp Shelly, Lake Tahoe
Livermore, CA — Families looking for a simple, welcoming way to get outdoors this summer can experience camping at Camp Shelly in South Lake Tahoe through Destination Shelly: Community Camp, a new overnight program led by the LARPD Rangers and Open Space Interpreters.

Designed for both new and experienced campers, these family-friendly long weekends offer a supportive environment with a balance of guided activities and free time. Participants can enjoy wildflower walks, crafts and games, campfire stories, and optional night hikes while also learning practical camping skills like outdoor safety and how to camp responsibly in bear country.

Each session is reserved for program participants, creating a more relaxed, family-oriented setting where kids can play freely, and families can connect with others sharing a similar experience.

2026 Community Camp Dates: June 25–28 | July 9–12 | August 7–9
“Camp Shelly is a special place, and this program is about helping families feel comfortable and confident spending time outdoors,” said Joseph Benjamin, LARPD Recreation Manager. “We hope to share that sense of connection to nature and give people the tools to enjoy it on their own.”
General camping at Camp Shelly is available throughout the rest of the summer season.
