LARPD and LVJUSD Partnership Expands Summer Swim Opportunities for Livermore Families

Livermore, CA – The Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD) and the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) have partnered to bring expanded access to aquatics programming this summer through the use of the Livermore High School pool. The site now serves as the practice location for LARPD’s Electric Eels, a recreational swim team that welcomes youth ages 5 to 18 for a fun, skill-building summer swim experience.

As demand has grown for LARPD's popular aquatics offerings—including swim lessons, lap swim, Splashball, and recreational swim—this collaboration has been instrumental in helping meet the needs of local families. The addition of the Livermore High School pool enables LARPD to offer more practice times for the Electric Eels, ensuring that its other two pools at the Robert Livermore Aquatic Center and May Nissen Swim Center can continue to serve a wide range of community programs.
“This partnership has been a huge win for the Livermore community,” said Mathew Fuzie, LARPD General Manager. “Utilizing the pool at Livermore High School has allowed us to expand our reach and serve more young swimmers. The success of this program has been fantastic, and we hope to continue building upon this partnership to include additional facilities in the future.”

The Electric Eels program is in its second summer back after a hiatus and has grown by more than 35%, from 140 swimmers last year to 190 this year. The team emphasizes fitness, teamwork, and water safety in a fun, recreational setting, and the Livermore High School pool has provided an ideal training environment for the growing group.
“The Livermore High School pool is a perfect example of how local investment through school bonds benefit not only our students, but the entire community,” expressed Superintendent Torie Gibson. “Thanks to the support of our voters, we were able to build a high-quality facility that serves our students during the school year and extends its impact through community partnerships, such as hosting LARPD’s recreational swim team over the summer. This kind of shared use reflects our commitment to maximizing public resources and enriching the lives of the Livermore community."
LARPD and LVJUSD continue to explore opportunities for shared use of facilities to support youth development, community recreation, and lifelong learning.
