Wingen Bakery & Restaurant Wins StopWaste Award

At a ceremony last month, Alameda County public agency StopWaste honored Wingen Bakery & Restaurant with the 2025 Environmental Leadership Award for Excellence in Sustainability at Work. The popular downtown Livermore business that recently expanded from bakery to full-service restaurant was recognized especially for their waste prevention initiatives. From ordering ingredients locally to minimizing packaging for take-out orders and frequently training staff on proper waste sorting, owners Bryan and Aimee Wingen have incorporated environmental considerations into all day-to-day operations. To prevent food waste, they routinely analyze sales sheets to adjust production quantities, turn surplus baked goods into new products or donate them to Tri-Valley Haven’s food pantry. The Wingens also care deeply about their local community. Last year they partnered with their waste hauler Livermore Sanitation, City staff, and Livermore’s Climate Action team to host a Sustainability Mixer for fellow downtown businesses to learn about available resources and brainstorm green initiatives.
