LVJUSD Hosts Information Session for Prospective School Board Candidates
LVJUSD Hosts Information Session for Prospective School Board Candidates
May 27, 2026 - Livermore, CA - Community members interested in serving on the Board of Education for the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) are invited to attend an information session on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the LVJUSD Board Room at 685 E. Jack London Boulevard.
The session will provide prospective candidates with a deeper understanding of school board governance and the role of the school board in helping to shape the vision, priorities, and policies of the district. Topics will include:
● The role and responsibilities of school board trustees and board
● Best practices for effective board governance
● Time commitments and meeting expectations
● Ethical standards and Brown Act requirements
● The relationship between the board and superintendent
● An overview of the 2026 election timeline and candidate filing process
November 2026 will mark the first election since LVJUSD completed the process of transitioning from at-large board elections to by-trustee area elections in 2025. The process included the adoption of a map with five distinct trustee areas and sequencing pattern for future election cycles.
In the November 3, 2026 General Election, voters in areas 2, 3, and 5 will each elect a board trustee to serve a four-year term. Only individuals who live in areas 2, 3, and 5 are eligible to run for their respective seat, and only voters in each area will vote for their respective board trustee. LVJUSD’s By-Trustee Area Election webpage provides additional details regarding the election process, including an interactive map that identifies areas by address.
“Attending the session is not a commitment to run, but rather an opportunity to understand the commitment that comes with being a board trustee and member of the governance team,” expressed Board President Steven Drouin. “We encourage individuals from all backgrounds and experiences who may be interested in public service as a board member to attend.”
For those unable to attend the information session, candidate information resources will be made available on the district website.
